Brief
We were approached by Karger Publishers, an international medical and scientific publisher, to help bring their latest web design project to life: the digital transformation of the Duke University School of Nursing website. The design phase had already been completed in Adobe XD by their creative team. Our role was to convert this static design into a fully functional, responsive, and CMS-driven website that met Duke University’s content and accessibility requirements.
Solution
Working in close collaboration with Karger and their design files, we used the Drupal CMS to build a custom theme from the ground up. The project required us to translate a detailed and content-rich design into a flexible system that allowed the Duke team to easily manage news, research features, events, multimedia, and faculty profiles.
Key features included:
- A custom content architecture tailored to university departments and academic structures
- Flexible landing page builders using reusable blocks and components
- Integrated multimedia and publications functionality
- Rigorous attention to accessibility and cross-browser responsiveness
Regular check-ins with Karger and the Duke team ensured that milestones were delivered on time and that development aligned precisely with the approved Adobe XD files.
Outcome
The result was a high-performance, fully responsive academic website that reflected Duke’s brand authority and research-led reputation. Content editors now benefit from an intuitive back-end experience, with the ability to update and publish complex content with ease. The new site structure and segmented layout empower the School of Nursing to showcase faculty excellence, academic achievements and global impact more effectively.
